Yea & Surrounds

There’s plenty to see and do in the historic town of Yea, surrounded by rivers, wetlands and farmland. The Woiwurung people occupied the area before it was discovered by explorers Hume and Hovell in 1824 and settled by overlanders from NSW in the late 1830s. Aboriginal heritage is celebrated along the Franklin Track, part of the Yea Wetlands. The Yea township, originally known as Muddy Creek, was established in 1855 and grew as a service centre to gold miners from 1859.  When the gold ran out, farming and timber remained the mainstays of the region.

This weekend, take the Melba-Whittlesea loop (touring loop from Melbourne) and discover Yea.
